With Supreme being sold recently, this is the first question that came to my head, what brand is the current face of streetwear?
There's been a lot of talk online about the “decline” of the brand and how its not as hot as it used to be. Additionally, with the recent sale and loss of $400 million value, that sentiment around Supreme's relevancy has doubled down.
I asked the community their thoughts on who the face of streetwear is. We got a mix of answers, some definitely questionable and some making full sense, which were bound to be picked.
When I thought about it more, seeing these answers made me realise two things, maybe Supreme still very much is the face of streetwear still. The way I see it is Supreme is probably the first brand that pops up when you think of the word streetwear, especially if we talking from a wider audience including older gens or people not too much into fashion. The brand pretty much embodied the term “streetwear” through and through. Another part of me agrees with Ezra Pharaoh, maybe the face of streetwear is an actual face and not a brand. The rise of personal brands and brand owners gaining followings has had people looking up to the faces behind the brand as opposed to the brand itself. I'll dive deeper into this topic on another post, maybe next week.
