WHAT IS PEOPLE'S OBSESSION WITH COMPARISON?

One thing that needs to stop is our need to compare everything, it takes away from enjoying and appreciating the work that creatives are pushing out.
I stay online pretty much 24/7 and a pattern i’ve seen is people’s need to always compare and point out something to another brand/piece. it’s like people are actively seeking negative things to point out so quickly before even giving the chance to appreciate something. 9/10 it’s a reach too. this can apply to any industry, especially within music.
The most common one is the Yeezy comparisons and of course, Ye has been one of the most influential designers of our time and has inspired countless designers but i’d love for things to be appreciated for what they are without them having to be compared to another brand or piece.
I think understanding the source of people’s inspirations and references is key to negating comparisons. actually taking time to understand where people pulled their references from and what they got inspired by, you’ll understand that people can get inspired by different things and come out with similar outcomes, i’ve seen it countless times.
Don’t get me wrong, I get it, things may look similar, and some people definitely copy, I’m not taking away from that. the point is give someone or something a chance before being so quick to point things out.
As for similarities and biting, that’s a convo for tomorrows post where we question the definitive line between referencing and copying.
